Thank You for Nine Years

Thank You for Nine Years

Kelsey Moreira -

At 12:00pm Pacific on October 27, 2026, we took our last order. After nine years, Doughp is closed.

I've written a lot of hard things in this space over the years — about sobriety, about money, about the parts of building a business that most founders keep quiet. This is the last one. And strangely, it's the easiest to write, because it isn't really about the closing.

It's about you.

The last 24 hours were the best ones.

On Monday night I recorded a video on my porch. No script, no lighting, no plan — just me saying goodbye and telling you there were 126 cups of cookie dough left in the world.

You cleared out the entire freezer in about two hours.

Every last cup. Flavors that had been sitting for weeks were gone before I'd finished reading the comments. So Israel called the warehouse to make absolutely sure that was everything — and found 502 bags of Cookie Dough Drops nobody had counted, sitting in the back.

Those went too.

Nine years of building this thing, and the last chapter was you emptying the warehouse in a single night because I asked. I'm not going to forget that.

Nine Years of Dough 🍪

It started at a food park called Spark Social SF — a cart, a dream, and a lot of cookie dough. Then a storefront on Pier 39. Then Las Vegas. Then a pandemic that closed every brick-and-mortar business around us, and an online pivot that somehow more than doubled our sales instead of ending us.

Shark Tank, twice. Forbes 30 Under 30. Over 600 investors who backed a crazy idea through crowdfunding. Kroger, Meijer, and 2,500 stores nationwide. Costco roadshows where one in every two people who tasted it bought it.

More than 90 flavors. Some became legends. Some taught us expensive lessons. And some of you still won't let me forget Nacho Mama's Cookie Dough.

15,921 reviews at 4.5 stars. Over $150,000 donated to mental health and addiction recovery. Years of Mental Health Mondays, written late at night, never from a template.

None of that happens without you. Not one piece of it.

And then there were the messages.

Over the last few weeks my inbox did something I wasn't ready for. People started writing to say goodbye — and almost none of them were writing about cookie dough.

Someone told me they found us watching Shark Tank, days from graduating, and that watching a stranger talk about her recovery on national television changed what they decided to do with their life. They work in that field now.

Someone wrote to say he first saw our Shark Tank episode from a prison cell, on a 13-inch TV, and that it stuck with him.

A woman wrote to say she's coming up on 35 years sober, and that cookie dough was the better choice anyway.

A therapist who works in substance use told me our emails sometimes showed up on the days the work was hardest, and reminded her why she does it.

There were hundreds. Different words, same shape. People telling me the thing they got from Doughp was never dessert. It was permission.

Permission to say the hard thing out loud. Permission to not be fine. Permission to treat yourself without apologizing for it.

I thought closing would feel like failure. Some days it did. But reading those made something else very clear: the part that mattered already happened. It happened in your kitchens, on your hard nights, at your sober birthdays, in conversations that started because a cookie dough company was weird enough to put mental health on a label.

Nobody can repossess that. Not a creditor, not a buyer, not a balance sheet.

So why did we close?

Honestly: we never owned our manufacturing. That meant we could never really control what it cost to make a cold-shipped product, and after nine years we ran out of capital to fix it.

That's it. That's the whole story.

It wasn't demand — 15,921 reviews say otherwise. It wasn't the mission; people wanted those conversations more every year, not less. It was cost of goods and freight on something that has to stay frozen, and a balance sheet that finally caught up with us.

I've seen a few people say that this means stigma won. It doesn't. Stigma didn't close Doughp. Margin did. Those are very different things, and the difference matters to me more than I can say.

The next chapter

Our operations have ended, but Doughp the brand hasn't. It's still available as a clean asset purchase — no entity, no liabilities.

That includes the Doughp name and brand IP, the registered DOUGHP® trademark, every formulation we ever developed from the originals through the +PROTEIN line, our Shopify store, nine years of customers and reviews, and the social accounts.

Our problem was never the product. For an owner who already has manufacturing, distribution, or retail muscle, the part that broke us is the part they've already solved.

If you're a buyer, know a buyer, or can put this in front of one — I'd genuinely love to hear from you.
Serious inquiries welcome.

I'd love nothing more than to see Doughp live on in the right hands. 💜

To everyone who ordered, shared, commented, lurked, wrote back, or sent me a story you didn't owe me — thank you. To our team, past and present. To our retail partners. To SHE RECOVERS. To the 600+ investors who believed in this before there was anything to believe in.

You turned a cookie dough company into a community. And communities don't close.

Doughp was my first baby — the thing I got to pour myself into after I put down alcohol. A healthy obsession, finally. I put everything I had into it, and I would do it all over again.

Go out and be fearless.

Remember how freaking incredible you are. And don't ever stop talking out loud about the hard parts of life — you never know who needs to hear your story.

I'm not done talking about mine. The company is closing; I'm not. If you want to know what comes next, find me on LinkedIn.

I love you guys. I really do.

As always... Have a Doughp Day. One last time. ❤️

P.S. If you're struggling right now — with drinking, with your head, with a thing you haven't said out loud yet — please know that recovery is possible and you are so worth it. That was always the actual point of all this. The cookie dough was just how we got you to read it.

Are you drooling yet?
